ABOUT THE TEMPE COMMUNITY CHORUS
The Tempe Community Chorus has been singing great choral music
in the Valley of the Sun since the fall of 1991
Tempe Community Chorus sings a full range of music styles including rock and roll and the Hallelujah Chorus by Handel. Our popular music includes song choices for everyone, from contemporary hits such as pop music written by Queen, to Broadway ballads such as Think of Me from Phantom of the Opera, to finger-snapping jazz music like Route 66, historical gospel music written during our country’s beginnings, and spirituals written during the Civil War era. At our holiday performances we often include traditional Christmas and Hanukkah music as well, along with other holiday music selections.
Tempe Community Chorus singers value working towards music excellence, and having fun doing it! We are a lively group with varying experience levels. This eclectic group is made up of singers from across Maricopa County, including Tempe, Phoenix, Chandler, Ahwatukee, Mesa, Maricopa, Scottsdale, Sun Lakes, Gilbert, and Apache Junction. We also accepted an invitation and sang on stage with Hugh Jackman for his 2019 "Hugh Jackman - The Man. The Music. The Show " World Tour. Choir Director Cary Burns teaches and challenges the chorus to bring forth our best voices.
Tempe Community Chorus has a Fall Season (August-December), a Spring Season (January-May), and a Summer Camp. We have at least one major public concert each fall and spring. Our performance venues have included the Mesa Arts Center, the Kerr Cultural Center in Scottsdale, the Tempe Center for the Arts, the Sun City Sun Bowl, and a variety of other sites within the community. In 2009, we even sang the National Anthem at the Insight Bowl.
The Tempe Community Chorus is a 501(C)(3) (non-profit) organization supported in part by the grants, by chorus member dues, and by donors
